Heritage for Youth – Day 2
As part of the European Cultural Heritage Days program, students continued exploring significant cultural and natural heritage sites of our region.
During the second day, they visited:
• Podgajnice in Zaton
• Samograd in Prijelozi
• The mosque in Radulići
• Šiško Lake
Expert lectures at the sites of Podgajnice, Samograd, and the mosque in Radulići were held by archaeologist Nataša Veličković, curator at the Public Institution Museum of Bijelo Polje, while Filip Bulatović guided the students through the natural beauty of Šiško Lake and the remains of old seasonal settlements on Bjelasica.
A special part of the program was a visit to the medieval site of Brskovo, one of the most significant mining and trading centers of this area. The expert tour was led by archaeologist Miloš Živanović from the Centre for Conservation and Archaeology of Montenegro, who presented to the students the historical importance of Brskovo and the value of this site for the study and preservation of cultural heritage.
In addition, students had the opportunity to become familiar with the work of archaeologists and methods of archaeological research, as well as elements of architectural heritage – how houses and settlements looked in that period. The visit also included Gradina as a special part of the site, which testifies to the importance of defensive and strategic structures within medieval Brskovo.
In this way, young people, through direct contact with cultural and natural heritage, gained new knowledge, developed awareness of the importance of its preservation, and became active guardians of the values that connect us with the past and commit us to the future.
