The church was built in 1606 and fresco-painted in 1613 by one of the most renowned fresco painters and iconographers of the time – priest Strahinja from Budimlja. Of particular artistic value is the gilded iconostasis from the 17th century, a masterpiece of woodcarving art.
In September 1960, Divoš’s Gospel from the 14th century was discovered in the church library – a manuscript written in honor of the Bosnian nobleman Divoš Tihoradić, which is today kept in the Church Museum in Cetinje.
